525 Powerglide™ Steady Roll Tappets It is no secret to us at JIMS® (and to top engine builders) that high performance V-Twin engines require more valve lift than stock designs. This substantially increases the loads on the tappet rollers, which can lead to failure. We are also fully aware that tappet roller failure always brings about other problems. Broken needle rollers allow the tappet roller to deform, causing cam lobe damage. Pieces of the hard rollers, as well as debris from the cam can easily contaminate other parts, such as cam plates, bearings, oil pumps, and other tappets. Ultimately, a complete engine tears down and oil system flush are required in the event of tappet roller breakage.To remedy this, we have replaced the needle rollers with a special bronze alloy bushing and attached the new roller assembly to JIMS proven “Powerglide™” tappets. An added bonus to increased reliability and longer life is quieter operation due to the tighter tolerances this design allows. JIMS has invested in new machinery that controls the hydraulic unit fitment tolerance within .00015”. Note: The new JIMS tappet roller is the ONLY one of its kind and we can virtually guarantee the exclusive use of them will eliminate the problem of needle rollers and pieces damaging the engine. This failsafe design means even if the bushing wears out, it will be retained in the tappet assembly. This tappet performs like a hydraulic tappet from start up to about 5500 r.p.m., and then turns into a solid from 5600 r.p.m. to your set r.p.m. rev limiter. At the same time it becomes a solid, it also adds about 3-6 more usable horsepower. What this all comes down to is that about the time your springs start to surge and go into harmonic distortion and the tappet rollers start lofting off the back side of the cam, you can be at ease knowing that your JIMS® Hydrosolid Tappet will not pump up allowing your valves to hit.
