HI-4N Ignition The well known Crane HI-4 ignition has been one of the most popular performance ignitions for 1970-’99 “cone” style engines for many years. So meet the new kid in town, the Crane HI-4N with updated features for ease of installation and set up, and for greater reliability. The bullet proof all metal housing of the HI-4N provides improved heat dissipation, and features degree and advance direction markings on the flange. A convenient cable notch in the housing makes installation easier and prevents damage to the cable. Rugged sensor/magnet housings are built into the all-metal back plate, protecting the sensors from damage during installation. The sensor housings contain advanced flux concentrators with high temperature resistant samarium/cobalt magnets for accurate and reliable triggering. The electronics are fully encapsulated to resist vibration, moisture, and dirt, and are mounted directly to the metal housing, which serves as a heat-sink. The new HI-4N ignition has four rotary switches for mode selection, advance rate, and rev limit. It is now available for 1970-’99 Harley-Davidson® motorcycles. Here’s the easiest conversion on the market. Simply remove the old points and condenser, install the XR-i on the supplied adapter plate, and run a couple of wires. Everything fits in the stock cone cover, so you retain a restoration-perfect “factory look.” The XR-i is the industry’s first points conversion to have a builtin adjustable rev limiter (4000 to 8000 RPM) and it’s fully sealed from moisture and dirt. It delivers pinpoint accurate ignition timing and can provide improved fuel economy. Available for 1970 –’78 big twins and can be used in 1979-’99 big twins if retrofitted with a stock style mechanical advance unit.
